Mihingo Lodge is a calm peaceful luxury facility in Lake Mburo National Park smallest of Uganda’s national parks underlined by metamorphic rocks dated back to over 500 million years ago strategically located along the Kampala – Mbarara highway connecting to the parks in the western part of the country.
Mihingo Lodge sits on the rugged terrain enhancing beautiful views of the nature of the park, uniquely setup to suit the calmness of the environment in which it is built consisting of 10 luxurious tented rooms designed with a major aim of creating comfort to the clients and satisfaction each positioned at a point where one can have a good view of the lake or the forest.
The lodge was constructed using local material to blend and suite the environment. The tents are well furnished, large and having basic facilities to offer a comfortable stay they have flash toilets and en-suite bathrooms having both hot and cold water. The main dining room is unique and first of its kind in Uganda made out of dead olive wood trees that were found on the Mihingo land, decorated with African crafts, local and international cuisines are served together with a well-stocked bar offering a wide selection of wines, beers and spirits.
Mihingo has a swimming pool below the dining area stretching out from the rocks and seems to disappear into the vast landscapes beyond. Guests can enjoy the view of the valley with sightings of animals especially zebras, and the beautiful sunsets of the pearl of Africa. It is a cozy and nice place to chill after a long afternoon hot sun game drive.
Mihingo hosts different tourism activities that can be done while at the lodge for example the horseback riding, it is the only lodge that offers horseback riding safaris in Lake Mburo National Park, giving a better and best way to see animals in the wild, actually they would feel much comfortable and free with a fellow animal. This gives an opportunity to view the vegetative habitats that surround the Lake Mburo, together with several animals like topi, elands, zebras, hippos, impala, giraffe’s, warthogs, bush bucks, waterbuck’s primates like olive baboons and vervet monkeys are present. The riding is typically an initiative of the Mihingo Lodge, sundowners, guided nature walks, boat trips, massage and wildlife safaris.
The lodge is situated on 200 acres of private land on a rocky surface overlooking the park built on wood and thatch construct consisting of a swimming pool, 10 sleeping cottages, a mess room, owner built, directed and decorated. The lodge has about 120 solar panels, which powers all the electricity and water heating in the rooms, about 70% of Mihingo Lodge staff are from the local people and as a way of giving back to the community the lodge supports two local schools and a health care facility proving materials for them. The hyena conservation project compensates farmers for the livestock killed by hyena and leopards from the park.
Mihingo Lodge is located in the Lake Mburo National Park in western Uganda along Mbarara –Masaka road approximately 4 hours’ drive from Kampala.
